“While You Were Out” application free for Microsoft Outlook
Free “While You Were Out” application for Microsoft Outlook 2003, 2007, 2010, 2013, 2016, 2019
Some of our clients were using the While You Were Out template for Outlook. After numerous clients kept experiencing issues with this template and no quick or paid alternatives were available we decided to look elsewhere. By elsewhere we mean our own in house IT staff. We have designed our own application which works the same way almost, except it is geared for the 21st century. The application also ensures that one less add-in is running in outlook and that provides better security and reliability. The best part is we are allowing you to download and use the application free of charge!
Support is limited or non-existent with the public release of the While You Were Out application; however, feel free to leave a comment below and we will try to answer the best we can.

I am still surprised that Microsoft hasn’t developed a Phone Message/WYWO mail item, similar to what Novell Groupwise had. Anyway, just two quick thoughts on your nice little app:
1. Would be nice to be able to minimize it.
2. Would be nice if, when the new mail opens with the .png file inserted, there could be a subject line already included saying “Phone Message”, or some such line.
Not essential items, just nice to haves.
Thanks for the useful little app.
Thanks for the apps !!! if it is possible to add the TIME..>>
Added the time field to the application. Version 2.0.1.0 Restarting the application will automatically prompt you to update to the latest version. Hope that is what you were looking for.
A place for the telephone number would be helpful … nice job!
Sure, we should be able to accommodate. Expect an updated version by the end of the week 3/8/2019.
The application has been updated. Exiting out and re-opening the application will prompt you for an update in which has the desired feature.
Clear all does not clear the phone number.
On one laptop, the outlook the recipients email does not show the png (it is attached thought) in the body. The error says:
“The linked image cannot be displayed. The file may have been moved, renamed, or deleted. Verify that the link points to the correct file and location.”
Suggestion, make it such that you can set an email as a CC on a permanent basis to create a log. That way, no matter who you send the message to, it will always cc an email used to maintain a phone log.
Thank you for providing this product.
Seth
Hi Seth,
Clear all does not clear the phone number.
–Fixed in latest release.
On one laptop, the outlook the recipients email does not show the png (it is attached thought) in the body. The error says:
“The linked image cannot be displayed. The file may have been moved, renamed, or deleted. Verify that the link points to the correct file and location.”
–Sounds like an issue with the security settings of that machine. You will need to troubleshoot on your end.
Suggestion, make it such that you can set an email as a CC on a permanent basis to create a log. That way, no matter who you send the message to, it will always cc an email used to maintain a phone log.
–Before sending out the email you have such option to include a CC
Would like to see a log option to where you can mark the message as completed
Would you be able to provide more details?
Will there be an update for when you send the message via email that the subject line will include the “Please contact” name, so that it can be easier to view/sort the calls as needed?? rather than having all the subject lines the same? This would be HUGE help.
Before sending out the email, you have the option to add to the subject line before sending it out.
Great application. Would it be possible to copy paste from the image file when you email it?
Would you be able to provide more information in what you are looking for?
Nice tool. I was trying to figure out how to make a wywo just for phone messages. Your app is great. Only issue for me is I would need a French version. Is this possible?
